Dear Parents, Leaders and Instructors, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, ex Scouts and Friends and Associates of Petersham and Ham Sea Scouts

Congratulations to all for a great team effort to make our celebration such a success and congratulation on passing the Admiralty Inspection. The warm winter sunshine certainly helped to get us all into a festive mood. Father Tim Marwood conducted a brilliant 9.30 service at St Peter’s using as his theme the scout promise. The church was packed with the normal congregation, the present uniformed membership of P&H, ex scouts, parents and friends and the dignitaries, the Deputy Mayor of Richmond, representatives from the Scout Association, the Community Police and Ltd Commander David Griffith from the Royal Navy to inspect the Troop, Explorers and Cubs. We had the pleasure of listening to a fanfare performed by four trumpeters, members of the Hampton Horse Ranger Band and a piece played on a solo trumpet by Stephanie Asbridge.

After the service all walked back to Douglas House Meadow, our scout field. Very quickly the plan of action for the day was put into practice with cooking equipment and tables being moved outside and Scouts and Cubs being ready for inspection on the maindeck. The Inspecting Officer talked to every Scout and Cub commenting on their badges and asking them questions on what they enjoyed at their meetings. After the formal inspection Scouts and Cubs were ready for their cooking activities with great enthusiasm. Scouts cooked pancakes and Cubs barbecued sausages and burgers. They also made make shift stretchers and followed a rope trail.

The ex Scouts told of their happy and exciting times and experiences at P&H. They loved the boating, the games the outdoor activities and most of all the camaraderie, not so very different from today’s scouting.

Special thanks to Heward who laid the rope trail, the Bartholomew family for taking charge of the pancake making, Howard Vie for looking after the food brought in by families, the James Allen Family and Ann Phillips for running the galley dispensing drinks, Birgit Mueller for preparing the mulled wine and Betty Carter for training the handbell ringers and to the German School for providing car parking. Thank you to all who brought in food to share, raffle prizes, brought memorabilia, helped with the cooking shelters and general jobs and clearing away.

Regards

Karin

Celebrating 100 years of Scouting at Petersham and Ham Sea Scouts - Drawings or Paintings for St Peter’s Church

We have been asked to make available art work from our members to display at St Peter’s during their open day at the end of May. There are some wonderful artists amongst our junior members. Please parents, let them express what they like about Beavers, Cubs, Scouts , Explorers in their drawings or paintings or collages. We would like to display everything at the scout hut if it does not get chosen for the church. I am really looking forward to viewing work from all our members. Karin
