The Admiral, Lt Cdr John Haynes, came for his first inspection visit of Petersham and Ham Sea Scouts on the slightly chilly evening of Wednesday the 16th of November 2005. He was met by a group of scouts and escorted down the path to the Scout Hut to meet a fine turnout of cubs, scouts, explorers, committee members, parents and a magnificent array of troop, district and county Scout Leaders! The cubs and scouts then started playing the trading game, with the explorers running bases and helping to ensure fair play. The Admiral watched this and also inspected the facilities and discussed aspects of the units running, operations and procedures with almost everyone present.
The unit then gathered in a large circle for a game of rope walking, followed rapidly by cub hurling.
Then the unit lined up for the official inspection.
Fortunately everyone had made an extra effort to wear matching shoes and tuck in their shirts, and the inspection was a success. The Admiral then addressed the unit and happily announced that we had passed the inspection! It was then time to invest a few folk who had fallen through the cracks during the last year; cub Jamie and ESL James, and then it was Karin’s turn; she received the 25 years of service award. Well done everybody for all your hard work: thanks to Lt Cdr Haynes and all those from the district and county organisations for coming to see us, thanks to the leaders, committee, friends, helpers and parents and of course the members of cubs, scouts and explorers for their fine appearance and good humour, and thanks to George, Katherine, John, Ronelle, Betty and anyone else not mentioned for the cooking and serving of the delicious Chili and pudding! |
