The results are shown here.

Friday 2nd December - London Trip
The plan WAS to meet at Richmond train station, fed or with sandwiches, at 6:30pm sharp, and then go into London to see some, none, or one of…

  • Madame Tussauds: Shut from 5:30pm
  • London Dungeon: Also shut from 5:30pm
  • Science Museum: Er.. shut from 6pm
  • IMAX at bfi: Open, showing the Polar Express(u) at 8:30pm
  • London Walks: Open for business - Jack-the-Ripper walk starts at Tower Hill at 7:30pm, £5.50 for Adults
  • Tate Modern: Open until 10pm, but Landscape/Matter/Environment and Still Life/Object/Real Life galleries are closed for rehanging. However the History/Memory/Society and Nude/Action/Body galleries are open and it is free!
  • Clink (prison) Museum: This is near the Tate Modern, and is open until 9:00pm at £3.50 - £5.
  • London Eye: Open until 8:00pm, tickets (which should probably be prebooked) are £5.85 for 15s and under, £11.25
  • The British Museum is open until 8:30pm and is free! Dig those mummies (not literally)

At the time I was leaning towards Jack the Ripper or the Tate/Clink, though getting in to town 15 minutes late shifted the evening more into Plan B mode, whereupon we found that the Tate Modern was rehanging everything except their nudes, and the Clink Museum was closed for a private party! Anyway - a jovial time has had by one and all, and the Millenium Bridge still made funny noises when sliding along it in the wet!

Last Friday Ideas in the goblet included ‘5 minute dramas’, Pioneering (making things like catapults with canes and string), team games and do-it-yourself surgery. Only kidding - team games can be dangerous.

Previous Friday Thanks to Greame Wood, the new District Explorer Scout Commissioner (or DESC for short), for coming to see us! Graeme is asking for a list of everyone who wants to go to the Gilwell Winter Camp by this Friday and forms plus money by next week! Click on the link and see who we have signed up. Unfortunately, this has been overbooked and is now full. Perhaps we might do a new year camp in our own mud to make up for it!

Subs and Uniforms We need to collect everyone’s Subs for this term: The list of who has paid so far is here. Let me know if you have paid and you are not ticked off, or if you haven’t paid yet, give us yer money! We also need to get everyone kitted out with full uniforms and start the Investiture process. We should be covering this in the next few meetings.

Climbing After the success of the Hillwalking camp over half term, we are investigating some indoor wall climbing sessions with Ron Wellbrook, the county climbing contact, perhaps at craggy island in Guildford or the Westway centre.

Driving for 16 year-olds There is a possibility of groups of 16 and a bit year-olds going to Crowthorne in Berkshire to practice some driving on the Traffic Research Labs private roads network with experience and insured driving instructors in proper dual-control cars. It will cost £55 per 3 hour 45 minute session, and they recommend 3 sessions to gain maximum benefit. The sessions are on Sunday mornings and are usually twice a month. Follow this link for more information.

Fireworks Thanks to all the scouts and explorers who came to help on Saturday 5th. You did an invaluable job and helped make the evening go with a bang (sorry, couldn’t resist!).

Youth Quiz 2005 at Whitton School on Friday 11th November Well done to our teams for coming 3rd and 4th in the U16s, and 6th equal in the U18s categories, but remember - Quarter Pounders come from McDonalds, not Burger King!
