Level 1 Kayak Coach CourseWho: This course is for anyone over 18 who is involved in P&H Sea Scouts who would like to become a kayak coach. No previous experience is necessary, although some is preferable. We are looking for about 3 people to take part in the course. When: This course will be split up into sections. Alex Allen will take the 2* practical sessions and will train up all the participants to 2* standard. Then, all the participants will attend a level 1 coach weekend, at a date to be arranged in the future. The 2* training will start the first sunday the scouts are back, and will continue until the last sunday of the half term. Do I need to join anything? In order to become a Level 1 Coach you need to be a basic member of the BCU, and have filled out a C1 form. However, this is not needed for the 2* training, and so Alex will advise participants when to join the BCU and send off their C1. All the relevant forms are included in the pack. Do I need to buy anything? A BCU coaching service logbook, which costs £7, and a Canoe safety test certificate, which costs £6. No personal equipment is necessary, although it will make paddling more enjoyable. Personal kit will be covered as part of the 2* training. Are there any prerequisites? All coaches need a current first aid certificate (don’t worry if you don’t have one, there are plenty of first aid courses available), and must be over the age of 18. They must also be at 2* standard while on the coach course, and must be members of the BCU who have sent off and received back their C1 form. Talk to James Allen with regards towards first aid training. |
