Visit to Chatham Historic Dockyard on Sunday 21 September - a trip celebrating 100 years of Scouting at Petersham and Ham

Dear Parents and Scouts of all ages

Thank you all who came on this great outing “Salute the ‘40s” at Chatham Dockyard. There we were, part of the crowd of second world war military personnel, the bright red lipsticked ladies with their seamed stockings and brimmed hats. We watched a war time fire crew extinguish a fire on an ammunition train, listened to swing dance music and swilled down tea out of tin mugs - all interrupted periodically by the wailing sirens warning of imminent air raids.

We did manage to look at the historic war ships as well and the rope walk where we took a hand in making rope.

The real paddle steamer Kingswear Castle took us for a trip on the Meadway all of us basking in the glorious sunshine.

Thank you again to all who came along. Karin
